Chris Marshall Named President,
United Collegiate Umpires
“I would rather send 10 guys to Omaha as a coordinator than go once myself.”
Mahwah, NJ – August 28, 2017 – Four-time Super Regional Umpire, Chris Marshall, has been named President, United Collegiate Umpires (UCU), effective immediately.
President Marshall assumes daily leadership responsibilities for the organization, including the execution of a full slate of fall training events and initiatives. Marshall, a 2017 College World Series alternate selection, embraces the responsibility.
“I am honored to accept this position with United Collegiate Umpires. There has never been a stronger need for positive leadership in NCAA umpiring, especially on the east coast. To my family, I say thank you for your patience and understanding,” said Marshall.
He continued, “Coming off the field was not an easy decision, but having your love and support made the decision easier to come by. To Alex [Skandalis] and Dan [Miller], I say thank you for the confidence you have both had in me from the outset. I look forward to working with you and continuing the journey we began in 2014 with a vision to advance the organization, one that has earned respect throughout the entire NCAA community over the course of the past three years.”
“Finally, to all the umpires, I have your back and am committed to doing everything I can to ensure United success,” Marshall concluded.
Following an extensive search, UCU Executive Vice President, Alex Skandalis stated, “John [Porter], Dan [Miller], and I spoke with many great candidates to lead the United Collegiate Umpires into the 2018 season, but at the end of the day, for me, the selection came down to one critical statement Chris made – I would rather send 10 guys to Omaha [College World Series] as a coordinator than go once myself. – With this selfless example and his knowledge of our Training and Development program, it became abundantly clear that Chris is the best choice to lead the United Collegiate Umpires.”
